Director Dave Derrick Jr. made his directorial debut with Moana 2 in 2024. He was a critical member of the original feature storyboarding “How Far I’ll Go”  and “I am Moana.”  Working on Moana and Moana 2 allowed  David the rare opportunity to tell stories that celebrate his Sāmoan heritage.

Prior to Moana 2 David has contributed creatively to many animated movies serving as a Head of Story and Story artist. His credits include Strange World, Encanto, Raya and the Last Dragon, The Lion King, Moana, Rise of the Guardians, Megamind, How to Train Your Dragon, Bee Movie and Flushed away.  David attended the University of Utah and CalArts.
